5. October 2017HTML5 provides cool features and interesting functionalities directly on the Web that were previously denied native system applications or apps. Especially for education, the novel HTML5 technologies offer many advantages for users.
HTML5 getUserMedia Foto/Video/Camera
With HTML5 getUserMedia, users can use the webcam of the computer or on the road the camera of the smartphone to take live photos. Thus photos and theoretically also video clips (limited support by the browser) can be created directly in the edu-sharing workspace and stored. Currently, this application only supports Chrome on Android. But do not be afraid for the iOS friends among us – the functionality is planned for iOS 11.

HTML5 SpechRecognition
After the relatively simple implementation of HTML5 Speech Recognition, the users can use the voice function of their smartphone and computer also in edu-sharing. The API returns live results as well as multiple results with ambiguity. Unfortunately there is the HTML5 Speech Recognition specifically only for Webkit and Firefox as well as mobile on Android in Chrome.
Conclusion: HTML5 for edu-sharing
Especially for education the HTML5 applications offer many advantages for users. Whether at the workplace, at home or on the road, the users can make and save photos of interesting materials directly in edu-sharing. And the voice function via edu-sharing has the advantage that the users can quickly search edu-sharing without having to use the keyboard or touche input.
However there are also small limitations. For example, the applications described above can be used without problems on the Internet browsers, but the application is mobile on Chrome on Android smartphones. With HTML5 getUserMedia, the maximum image resolution for the photo function is limited. In addition, no metadata is provided on the image (Exif data).
